A város idei karácsonyfáját egy Petőfi-telepi lakos ajánlotta fel, aki túl nagynak és veszélyesnek találta a háza előtt álló nordmannt. A szakemberek esős időben, villanyvezetékek között manőverezve vágták ki a több mint tízméteres, 3–4 tonnás fát, majd fél óra alatt teherautóra emelték. A fenyő a Centrum Áruház előtt kapott helyet, ahol az óriáskerék mellett díszíti Szombathely főterét az adventi időszakban.
